Am I Really Happy? How Often do You Ask this Question to Yourself?
Most People Keep Chasing Goals Other than Happiness
In his or her life, everyone wants to be happy. Without any doubt, happiness is the ultimate goal that everyone wants to achieve. However, in their day to day life most people hardly take time to think about how happy they are. They don’t take necessary actions to make themselves happy. Although ultimately all people want to be happy, but they don’t keep happiness as one of their top 3-4 priorities. Rather they keep chasing other goals, like money, position, power, fame etc. thinking that achievement of these goals will make them happy.
Generally, most people think that they will be really happy if they become rich, successful, powerful and famous. Hence, they keep accumulating as much wealth as they can, keep gaining as much power as they can and keep trying to become as famous as they can, thinking that attainment of these things will make them happy.
Once they achieve what all they have desired for, people feel happy. However, that happiness is often short-lived. After some time, people start feeling that they are not as happy as they were earlier. They start feeling that something important is missing from their life. They feel that they need more materialistic achievements to remain happy. Hence, they set new goals for higher position, more money, more power and more fame. This cycle keeps going on.
People mistakenly think that money, position, power and fame will make them happy. Hence, they keep working hard day and night to achieve more and more of these things. Even after achieving a lot of these, they are not happier in comparison to when they had relatively less money, power, and fame. There are a lot of people who are highly successful, rich, powerful and famous, but they are very unhappy in their life.
One major reason why most people are not happy in their life is that they hardly take time to understand what will make them ‘really’ happy. They don’t keep happiness as one of their top priorities. Almost everyone is in a rush to gain more and more materialistic things that they hardly think about what will give them real happiness.
Most people don’t pause and ask themselves – Am I really happy? Is happiness a top priority of my life? What makes me really happy?
Make Happiness Your Top Priority
If you want to be happy, you have to make happiness your top priority. Have you made happiness as one of the top priorities of your life? Most people often don’t keep happiness as one of their top priorities. Their top priorities are more money, power and fame, but they want to be happy. They want to achieve other important goals first. That is the irony.
Please remember, real happiness will not come from earning a lot of money, becoming more famous, gaining more power and reaching to higher position. Real happiness is within you. However, most of the time people keep looking happiness in materialistic achievements.
Most people know that money, power, fame and position are not going to give them long lasting happiness. Despite knowing this, people keep chasing these goals.
I do not mean that money, power, position and fame are not important. They are important, but they are not everything. You need to have money to live a life of your choice, you need power to make difference in people’s life, you may also need position to impact others’ life. But how important are these things in your life, for your happiness, you have to think about it seriously.
Real happiness is within you. You will feel happy when you spend time with yourself. You will feel happy when you do things that you love, no matter what other persons think about that. You will feel happy when you give enough time to yourself, to your family members, to your friends and other closed ones. Real happiness will come from helping others to live a better life. Lasting happiness is not going to come from having a lot of materialistic achievements.
Do you want to continue to live a life of misery and unhappiness or you want to know what makes you really happy? Choice is yours. But remember, you are not going to get this time again. You are not going to get this life again.
